THIS SPECIAL CAR IS KK#1238. IT IS THE REAL DEAL ONE OF THE FIRST 50 HAND-BUILT ORIGINAL KAR KRAFT PROTOTYPES AND IS THE VERY FIRST CANDY APPLE RED BOSS 429 SOLD TO THE PUBLIC!
The Mustang Boss 429 was built by Ford for one reason – to qualify the engine for NASCAR racing. These special high-performance Boss 9s were assembled by Kar Kraft facility in Brighton, Michigan. At Kar Kraft the front shock towers were modified and the battery relocated to the trunk to make room for the huge engine that dominated NASCAR. In 1969, production ran from Jan-July and 859 were produced. This 1969 Boss 429 is KK 429 NASCAR #1238, it is the 38th car built, and the 23rd car offered for sale to the public. (Note: The first 15 KK #1201-1215 were ‘test’ cars). It is one of the first 50 hand-built original Kar Kraft prototypes and making it most unique, this car KK#1238 is THE Very First Candy Apple Red Boss that was built and sold to the public and is one of the most complete 1969 Boss 429s in existence considering only 201 Boss 429s were Candy Apple Red of the 858 Bosses total. Furthermore, according to Steve Strange’s Boss 429 update, only 135 Boss 429′s are known to exist!
Under the hood, it is equipped with the 820-S Series early NASCAR motor utilizing NASCAR-spec heavy duty rods, forged pistons and steel crank. The car sets the highest watermark for excellence in restoration quality. This special vehicle has received the best no-expense spared rotisserie restoration which was completed in 2009, by Randy Roberts of Muscle Cars Restorations, Inc. It is listed in the 2011 Mustang Boss 302/429 Registry and is offered with the original build sheet and complete previous owner/restoration history.
